Melville Tavern is located at 484 Washington Street, just one block off of Alvarado Street in historic downtown Monterey. Melville hosts more of a local crowd and isn’t the typical tourist spot. The owner Ian, worked as a chef and bartender for many years in various restaurants throughout the Monterey community before taking ownership at Melville. He has handcrafted the menu, picked a selection of wines and draft beers to compliment the food. Melville serves delicious burgers and wood-fired pizzas. Some local favorites at Melville include their meatloaf (pictured above) and blackened fish sandwich. For brunch lovers, Melville hosts brunch on the weekends with bottomless mimosas.
Melville checks all of the boxes when it comes to what I look for in a restaurant. It has delicious food, a vibrant atmosphere and a welcoming staff. Along with having a great atmosphere, the exterior architecture and interior of the building are aesthetically pleasing. If you’re looking for a burgers and beers joint in Monterey, look no further.
Check out the video below as I did a more detailed video of Melville highlighting the restaurant, its food and an interview with the owner Ian.
